Pictured are some of our members at the annual People First Walk-n-Roll-Athon sponsored by FIU student social workers.	PURPOSE People First teaches persons how to protect their rights and responsibilities. The group helps in getting things done, both for the community and for individuals. Often, members speak to other groups about disabilities issues. People First is not only an advocacy group, but is also a social group. HISTORY People First of South Florida was started in 1979 by a group of persons with disabilities who wanted to make the community a better place to live for everyone. With the help of ARC of South Florida and other organizations, People First became a known self advocacy group.

PURPOSE
